Latinx Scientists You Should Know About

9/16/2021

Picture
We are in the middle of Hispanic Heritage Month and I wanted to take a moment to share my platform to highlight some incredible Latinxs who are making waves in STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art, and mathematics). I am lucky to consider many of these fantastic people friends and gotten to follow their journeys for a while now.

Without further ado, and in no certain order... it is my honour to introduce you to people you will be inspired by every day!

brianne - the people engineer

I don't even remember the first time I met Brianne but I treasure our friendship - especially when our paths cross on the internet. She is such a powerhouse: she's an international speaker, podcast host, has her own consulting firm, and even has mentorship series that drops GEMS every single time. Follow her on instagram!

Ana Maria - Science, Technology & Engineering

Dra. Ana Maria Porras Corredor arrived in the United States from Colombia with a dream: to become a biomedical engineer. Since then, she has completed a BS, MS, and PhD in Biomedical Engineering and is now a Biomedical Engineer Professor at University of Florida researching a wide variety of topics ranging from tissue engineering to the gut microbiome and global health. She also does some incredible #scicomm by crocheting microbes. Follow her on instagram to get science communication in both English and Spanish!

Mariana - Paleontologist

Currently a natural history conservator at the Yale Peabody Museum of Natural History, Dr. Mariana Di Giacomo has a PhD in the Preservation Studies from the University of Delaware. A lover of natural history, she is dedicated to caring and preserving of the fossils in museums. Give her a follow on Twitter to learn more about her work!

stephanie - ethical hacker

Stephanie is incredible to talk to about a number of topics: spirituality/souls, quantum physics and the cosmos. Like... come on, who wouldn't have a BFF like that? Not to mention she's a cyber security whiz (she isn't called "La Reina del Cyber" for nothing) and I constantly learn something new from her feed! Follow her on instagram, learn about how she got into cyber security, and maybe get some #OOTD inspo from her.

ana - marine biologist

Meet marine biologist Ana Silverio, who has a B.S in Marine Science from The University of Texas at Austin and is currently a researcher at the Quantitative Marine Ecology Lab (University of New Hampshire). She's part of Minorities in Shark Sciences (MISS) and I just know she is going to shine brightly in the shark science world. Give her a follow on instagram today to follow her amazing career!

Mena - tech, digital marketing, art

Mena Martinez is a bad ass PhD student researcher (focusing in Higher Education and Student Affairs) whose instagram feed is FIRE. She is passionate about STEM education, advocacy, and making tech more accessible & equitable. Her platform is filled with content that encourages women and girls from underrepresented backgrounds to pursue STEM degrees and careers... so what are you waiting for?! Give her a follow!
