![]() This year has been an absolute whirlwind for me. I feel like I was constantly busy and on the move-- and for many good reasons! I truly had such a good year and am so thankful. I really hope that 2018 is even better! A big thank you to all who have stopped by my personal blog (this one) and The Fins United Initiative Bit Blog in 2017. You're all so supportive, positive, and truly brighten my day. I hope to continue creating posts that you enjoy in 2018! I wish you and all of your family and friends a very happy new year. When it comes to New Year's Eve in Sydney there are two sides: the "OMG I loooove NYE in the city" and "Get me the f*** out of the CBD area." Right now, I am ALL about number one. Joshua and I are SO excited to see what the city has to offer and really experience the official new year. Wellington fireworks have left me wanting more-- Sydney is known to deliver every year. How are you going to ring in the new year? I can't wait to see what 2018 has in store -- if was anything like this past year, we're in luck! This year brought upon a lot of change for me--but luckily, in all of the best ways possible. Here's what I hope to be able to work on in 2018: Get into a workout routineNew Year, same me! Just a slightly better, healthier version? I used to love working out. I have been an athlete all my life and once I moved from competitive sports, I would work out every single day in university. My favourite place to workout is outdoors! New Zealand didn't always have the best weather, and it was hard to drag oneself out to the gym when it was a car ride away and it was cold, dark, and often rainy. Now that I live in Australia, I have to get back into exercising regularly because it's a great stress reliever, I want to be healthier, and I also like having a six pack... I mean, who doesn't? Say I Love You moreI am lucky in my life that I have a lot of people I say that I love. In fact, I often am overwhelmed by how much love I have bottled up in me, I feel I may just explode from the feeling! But I feel so #blessed and this year I want to fight for the time with the people I love. Take their calls no matter what, squeeze in a trip, send them more texts, plan a vacation together, etc. Love them relentlessly so that they know they are loved and if they ever need anyone to talk to, I'm here for them. Trust My GutThis is something I have relied on time and time again. I've had a lot of gut feelings this past year on what to do and how to handle situations/decisions and so far, trusting my gut has really been a great thing. I need to remember to continue to do this in 2018! White Hot and Passionate Is the Only Thing To BeThis is an excerpt from my one of my favourite quote. Having a passion in life is so important. Whether it's watching your job, watching your favourite sports team, playing an instrument, traveling the world, or whatever it may be, I think it's super important to have passion. And it doesn't have to be related to your job-- in fact, I think one shouldn't make their identity be so intertwined with their job/career. For example, I'm more than just a scientist. I'm a wife, friend, sister, daughter. I'm a runner. I'm a scuba diver. I love to travel, I love to read, I love to write. And I am so passionate about all of these things - and I need to make more time for them! Read More BooksLike actual books! I'm interested in taking the 52 book challenge this year (reading a single book per week) and excited for the books I've chosen! I love reading, but I never make time for it. This year I definitely resolve to make more time for reading... leave any book suggestions in the comments! Try Something NewI really want to take a class of some sort. I'm all about bettering myself and being well rounded. I think it'd be fun to take a French class just for the heck of it. I've also thought about cooking classes, photography classes, dance class, or even an HTML coding class... these are all things I'm interested in and think it would be great to try! Anyone know of some good free (or cheap) classes in the Sydney area? So I'll stop there, before I add about a billion things and then feel like a failure for not following through. What are your goals for 2018? "May your coming year be filled with magic and dreams and good madness. I hope you read some fine books and kiss someone who thinks you're wonderful, and don't forget to makes some art - write or draw or build or sing or live as only you can. And I hope somewhere in the next year, you surprise yourself." - Neil Gaiman
